Day 17: Progressive Muscle Relaxation
🎄 Today's Focus: Releasing Tension, Finding Calm
Welcome to Day 18!
Today, we’re going to explore Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)—a technique that helps release physical tension and brings a deep sense of calm. By intentionally tensing and relaxing different muscle groups, we can reset our bodies and quiet our minds. It’s a perfect practice for easing stress or preparing for rest.
✨ Step 1: Get Comfortable
Find a quiet space where you can sit or lie down comfortably. Close your eyes if it feels right, and take a few deep breaths to start calming your mind.
✨ Step 2: Tense and Relax
We’ll work through your body, tensing each muscle group for a few seconds and then releasing it to feel the tension melt away. As you breathe, focus on the sensations of each muscle group.
Feet and ankles: Tighten the muscles in your feet and ankles, holding for 5 seconds, then release. Feel the relaxation as your muscles soften.
Calves: Flex your calves, hold for 5 seconds, then relax. Notice the difference between tension and relaxation.
Thighs: Squeeze your thighs, hold for 5 seconds, then release. Allow your legs to feel heavy and relaxed.
Buttocks: Tighten your glutes, hold for 5 seconds, then relax. Let go of any tightness.
Stomach: Draw in your belly button, hold for 5 seconds, then release and let your stomach soften.
Hands and arms: Clench your fists and tighten your arms, hold for 5 seconds, then release and feel the tension melt away.
Shoulders: Raise your shoulders towards your ears, hold for 5 seconds, then drop them and relax.
Neck: Gently tilt your head back (don’t overdo it) and tense the muscles in your neck, hold for 5 seconds, then release.
Face: Scrunch your face, squeeze your eyes shut, tighten your jaw, hold for 5 seconds, then relax and let your face soften.
✨ Step 3: Enjoy the Calm
Take a few more deep breaths, feeling how your body has relaxed with each muscle group. Notice the difference in how your body feels—lighter, calmer, more at ease.
🎁 Today’s Takeaway: Let Go of Tension
Progressive Muscle Relaxation is a wonderful tool to release physical tension and ground yourself. You can use this practice anytime you feel stress or tightness in your body, helping you reconnect with a sense of calm and relaxation.
